How Kingston contractors and home builders win better jobs online

Homeowners planning a big project do months of research before they call anyone. Here's how Kingston builders and renovators can win them over during that quiet stretch.

Dynamic Drywall Solutions

A lot of the Kingston contractors we talk to don't have a lead problem. They have a fit problem. The phone rings with small jobs and people shopping for the lowest price, while the projects they actually want, like additions, custom builds and full renovations, go to someone else.

Those bigger projects almost always start online, months before anyone picks up the phone. A homeowner planning a major renovation will look through your website, scroll your photos, read your reviews and decide if you seem like someone they'd trust in their house for six months. That quiet research phase is where the good jobs are won.

Show your work the way people search for it

Your project photos are your best sales tool, but one big gallery of 200 pictures doesn't help anyone. Homeowners think in project types and neighbourhoods, so organize your work that way: kitchens, basements, additions and custom homes, with a note on where each one is. Someone in Westbrook or Amherstview wants to see that you've built nearby. For your best projects, add a few sentences about what the client wanted, what you built and how long it took.

Those pages help with search, too. Someone typing "basement renovation Kingston" is far more likely to land on a page that's actually about basement renovations in Kingston.

Capture the job while it's happening

Finished photos are great, but the process is what builds trust. Framing going up, the crew on site, a tricky foundation problem solved or the day the drywall comes down all show homeowners how you work and how you treat a job site. A few phone videos a week is plenty. Then set aside a day or two each season for professional photos and video of finished projects, with drone shots for exteriors and bigger builds. That one shoot can feed your website, social media and ads for months.

Let your clients do the talking

On a big project, homeowners want to hear from people like them. Ask every happy client for a Google review at handover, while they're still excited about the new space. Send them a direct link so it only takes a minute, and reply to every review you get. Our guide on getting more Google reviews the right way has wording you can borrow, and our Google Business Profile guide covers service areas, categories and photos.

Answer the big questions before they call

Most homeowners want to know a few things before they reach out: what you build, where you work, roughly what it costs, how long it takes and what happens after they get in touch. Answer those clearly on your website and you'll get fewer calls that go nowhere and more that turn into quotes. A contact form that asks about project type, timeline and rough budget also helps you sort leads before you spend an evening driving out to quote a job that was never a fit. Our website design page shows how we build sites for trades and builders.

Advertise for the work you want

Google search ads can put you in front of people looking for a specific project right now, but be choosy. Advertise the services you want more of, in the areas you want to work, and send each ad to the page that matches it. A general "we do it all" ad tends to bring general "how much for this small job" calls.

And whatever you do, follow up fast. Homeowners often reach out to two or three builders at once, and getting back to them within a day, even just to book a call, puts you ahead of most of the competition.

We work with builders, renovators and trades across Kingston and Eastern Ontario, including Generation Construction, Myers Design & Build, Newcon Insulated Foundations and Dynamic Drywall Solutions.
