The goal
The Inclusive Play Project is a volunteer-led group with a simple idea: a playground where children of all abilities can play together. Kingston did not have a fully inclusive playground, and building one meant raising $1.5 million and winning support from the City.
A volunteer group needed to look and sound like an organization donors, sponsors and Council could trust, and it needed to keep the community excited over a long campaign.
What we did
New Day donated its marketing and fundraising support for several years, working alongside the volunteers from the early fundraising push to opening day.
- Brand and website. A clear identity and a website that explained the project, showed progress and made it easy to donate or get involved.
- City Council materials. Presentations and supporting materials that helped make the case to Council, contributing to a $300,000 municipal commitment.
- Sponsorship and print. Sponsorship packages, brochures, signage and pull-up banners for events and partner outreach.
- Social media and campaigns. Ongoing social content and campaign materials, including support for the 2026 Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign, which raised $232,286.

The result
The campaign beat its $1.5 million goal, and the Jumpstart Inclusive Playground opened at Shannon Park on September 12, 2026. It is Kingston's first fully inclusive playground, built so more children can play together.
The credit belongs to the volunteers, donors and sponsors who carried this project for years. We are proud our work helped tell the story.

What other organizations can take from it
- Look established early. A consistent brand and a credible website make it easier for donors and decision makers to say yes.
- Build the case for Council like a pitch. Clear visuals, plain language and community support make the ask easy to understand.
- Keep the momentum visible. Regular updates through a long campaign keep supporters invested until opening day.
